Elijah Blue Fescue Grass is a compact, cool-season ornamental grass prized for its fine, needlelike foliage and luminous silvery blue color. Its tidy, rounded mounds provide year-round structure in milder climates and striking contrast in borders, rock gardens, containers, and water-wise landscapes.
1. Planting: Select a full-sun location with freely draining soil. Position the crown level with the surrounding grade and space plants approximately 12 to 15 inches apart, allowing air to move around each compact clump.
The foliage generally forms a rounded mound 8 to 12 inches tall and 12 to 18 inches wide. Flower stems may rise several inches above the foliage from late spring into early summer.
It is semi-evergreen and may retain much of its blue foliage during mild winters. Colder temperatures, snow cover, or winter exposure can cause browning, which can be tidied as new growth begins in spring.
Divide established clumps in spring when the center becomes sparse or the mound loses its rounded shape. Replant vigorous outer sections at crown level and water them consistently while new roots develop.
