Customer Service
How We Ship
We currently offer three shipping and fulfillment options:
Free Local Delivery
If your address is within our local delivery zone, we will deliver your plant order to you for free. There is no delivery charge for qualifying local delivery orders.
UPS Ground Shipping
If you are outside our local delivery zone, eligible plants may be shipped by UPS Ground. UPS Ground shipping rates are calculated based on the delivery address, package size, package weight, and the items in your order.
UPS Ground shipping is currently available to the following states:
New York, New Jersey, Vermont, Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Michigan, Ohio, South Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia.
To help ensure your plants arrive in the best condition possible, we generally aim to ship plant orders on Tuesdays. This helps reduce the amount of time your plants spend in transit and gives them the best chance of arriving quickly, healthy, and ready to plant.
Because plants are living products, we also monitor shipping conditions before sending orders out. In cases of extreme heat, cold, storms, or other weather conditions that may affect plant health during transit, we may delay shipping until conditions improve. If we believe it is best to ship your order at a later date, we will contact you with an update.
Our goal is to provide the best plant care possible from our nursery to your home.
Free Local Pickup
Customers may also pick up their order for free at our nursery location:
318 Mott Road
Gansevoort, NY 12831
There is no shipping or delivery charge for local pickup orders.
Please note that not all plants can be shipped by UPS. We currently ship plants up to #5 containers and some smaller #7 containers. Larger trees and oversized plants, such as many B&B trees, #10 containers, and #35 containers, cannot be shipped because they are too large. These larger items may still be available for free local pickup, and they may qualify for free local delivery if the address is within our local delivery zone.
Tracking numbers are provided once your order has been processed by our nursery manager and prepared for shipment.
Grasshopper Guarantee
We guarantee that your plants and trees will arrive happy and healthy. If you’re not satisfied after receiving your trees and plants, we’ll replace them at no cost to you. Trees and plants are living organisms and require care, maintenance, and protection to survive, root in, and establish properly. Trees that do not survive despite receiving the proper care, maintenance, and protection within the first year will be considered for a one-time replacement. If you purchased plants outside of your growing zone recommendation, or have not properly cared for your new plants as described in your welcome letter, your purchase won’t be covered by our Grasshopper guarantee.
Returns
If you decide to return a plant for a refund, you must do so within 5 days of arrival. If you have an issue with your plant or tree, please give us a call as soon as possible so we can provide expert assistance and work to provide a replacement if needed.
How We Measure Our Trees
When shopping for your trees, there are 3 standard units of measurement to consider., container size, caliper, and height. Container sizes range from #5 up to #35 and allow us to offer certain trees from 4′ up to 15′ in height for immediate shipping. Caliper is the measurement of the diameter of a tree trunk, in inches. These trees are planted as babies in farm fields and grown to more mature sizes
Hardiness Zone Map
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) created 13 growing zones, based on the 30-year average of the lowest winter temperature in each area. You will be the most successful planting plants outdoors that are suitable for the growing zone you live in.
