White Spruce is a native evergreen conifer valued for dense green to blue-green needles, a classic pyramidal shape, and strong year-round structure. This long-lived tree is excellent for spacious landscapes, natural screens, windbreaks, woodland edges, and cool-climate evergreen plantings.
1. Planting: Plant White Spruce in full sun with moist, well-drained soil and enough room for its mature height and spread. Set the root flare at or slightly above soil level, then backfill and water thoroughly.
White Spruce can become a large evergreen tree, often reaching 40–60 feet tall in landscape settings and sometimes larger in ideal native conditions. Mature size depends on climate, soil, moisture, and available space.
Plant White Spruce in a sunny, well-drained site with good air movement and plenty of room to mature. It is best suited for larger yards, windbreaks, screens, and naturalized evergreen plantings.
White Spruce usually needs very little pruning. Its natural shape is one of its best features, so pruning should focus on removing damaged or crowded branches rather than reshaping the tree.
