Overdam Feather Reed Grass is a compact, variegated ornamental grass featuring narrow green leaves edged in creamy white. Upright, pink-tinted flower plumes rise above its tidy clumps in early summer, creating graceful movement, fine texture, and lasting vertical structure for borders, foundations, containers, and mass plantings.
1. Planting: Select a full-sun to lightly shaded site with fertile, well-drained soil. Set the crown level with the surrounding soil and allow approximately 18 to 24 inches between plants for an attractive, defined clump.
The foliage generally reaches 2 to 3 feet tall and 1½ to 2 feet wide. Its airy flower stems can extend the plant’s seasonal height to approximately 3 to 4 feet.
Pink-tinted plumes usually emerge in early summer. They gradually mature to golden tan and can remain decorative through fall and winter when the stems are left standing.
It performs best in full sun, which encourages sturdy, upright growth and strong variegation. Light shade is also suitable, particularly where afternoons are intensely hot.
