Heritage River Birch is a native deciduous shade tree admired for creamy exfoliating bark, graceful branching, and fresh green foliage. This handsome river birch selection brings year-round texture, filtered shade, and natural beauty to lawns, rain gardens, large borders, and moist landscape areas.
1. Planting: Plant Heritage River Birch in full sun to partial shade with moist, well-drained soil. Choose a location with room for its mature canopy and keep the root flare level with or slightly above the surrounding soil.
Heritage River Birch commonly matures around 40–70 feet tall and 25–40 feet wide, depending on soil moisture, growing conditions, pruning, and whether it is grown single-stem or multi-stem.
Plant it in a sunny to partly shaded location with moist, well-drained soil and plenty of space. It is excellent for lawns, rain gardens, pond edges, naturalized borders, and streamside-inspired landscapes.
Its bark peels in papery layers to reveal attractive cream, tan, salmon, and cinnamon tones. This exfoliating texture provides excellent visual interest, especially in winter.
It usually needs only light pruning. Remove damaged, crossing, or crowded branches during dormancy, and avoid heavy shaping so the tree keeps its natural upright, graceful form.
