Tulip Tree is one of eastern North America’s most impressive native hardwoods, valued for its rapid growth, straight trunk, and distinctive four-lobed leaves. The foliage is bright to medium green in summer and often turns a clear golden yellow in fall. Mature trees produce greenish-yellow, orange-marked flowers in late spring to early summer. The blooms resemble small tulips and are often held high in the canopy, where they support pollinators such as bees and hummingbirds.

Because Tulip Tree can become very large, it is best planted where it has plenty of space above and around it. It is not ideal for tight foundation beds, small yards, or areas directly beneath overhead utility lines. Use it as a shade tree, native specimen, woodland-edge planting, or naturalized landscape feature. Prune young trees as needed to encourage a strong central leader and well-spaced branches.
