Crimson King Maple is a purple-leaved cultivar of Norway maple grown primarily for dramatic foliage color and shade. New leaves emerge in rich crimson-purple tones and mature to deep burgundy or maroon through much of the growing season. Small spring flowers may appear before the foliage fully expands, followed by winged samaras, but the main ornamental feature is the dark canopy.

This deciduous tree drops its leaves in fall and shows a strong branching silhouette through winter. It works best as a specimen shade tree, lawn tree, or large-scale landscape accent where its mature canopy has plenty of room. Because Norway maple is regulated or discouraged in some regions, plant and sell according to local guidance.
